The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was established by the Government of India in the year 1961 with a view to bringing about qualitative improvement in school education in the country. No sooner the Council was set up than it mounted a number of programmes in this direction. One such programme was to identify and nurture the talented students. This programme took up the shape of a scheme called National Science Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) in the year 1963 which provided for the identification of talented students and awarding them with scholarships. During the first year of the implementation of the scheme, it was confined to the Union Territory of Delhi wherein only 10 scholarships were awarded to the Class XI students.
The Director of Government Examinations issued a press note giving latest changes in State Level National Talent Search Examination – NTSE exam for this year onward. According to note, the central Govt decided to shift the State Level
National Talent Search (1st level) Examinations from class VIII to class X students from this year and onwards and the Test will be conducted on 18-11-2012 (Sunday) from 10.00am to 01.00pm in TeIugu/ Hindi/ Urdu and English media at all the Head quarters of 23 Districts in the State.
The students who are studying X Class during the current academic year i.e., 2012-2013 in any recognised school in Andhra Pradesh including Kendriya Vidyalayas and schools
affiliated to I.C.S.E. & C.B.S.E., New Delhi are only eligible to appear for the above
said Examination. The candidates those who are selected for NTSE scholarships in VIII class are not eligible to appear for the Test. The students who have selected for NMMS scholarships and studying X class now may also eligible for NTS Exams but such candidates have to forego the further NMMS scholarships, if he/she are selected in NTS Examination.
The Examination consists of two parts. Part—I Consists of General Mental Ability Test for 90 marks. Part — II of Scholastic Aptitude Test for 90 marks comprising Social Sciences, Sciences and Mathematics.
The following are the due dates for remittance of Examination fee and for submission of applications.
–Last date for submission of Application Form along with fee in the shape of Demand Draft by students is: 31st August 2012.
–Schools should submit the applications to DEOs: 1st September 2012.
–DEOs should submit all the applications form their district: 5th October 2012.
